Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
If your husband was murdered,
And you were a witness,
How do you explain it when he appears on your nanny cam?
You thought you trusted him.
Now you can't even trust yourself.
Dark secrets and a terrifying hunt for the truth lie at the heart of this gripping new thriller.
I love this author - from the first page he has you hooked every time and this novel is no exception. A high octane ride from start to finish. Packed full of twists and turns, I didn't really work it out until the end which is exactly how it should be.
Loved the feisty strong character of Maya the retired soldier helicopter pilot home from the war who faces her own tragedy when her husband Joe is killed and she has to pick up the pieces and look after her 2 year old daughter alone. When checking footage on her nanny cam one evening 2 weeks after her husbands death she see's Joe on the webcam playing with their daughter Lily; she knows this can't possibly be and yet here he is. Shocked and unable to believe her eyes she confronts the nanny and plays the video clip to her. The nanny simply says she saw nothing but then steals the video and disappears.
What follows is a race to find the truth and a guessing game for the reader. This was a meaty book but it was such a thrilling read that I managed to finish in 2 days - I wanted to get to the end but a part of me was being so entertained that I didn't want to finish it. Harlan makes it all look so easy but the skillful way he juggles several characters and ideas and brings them all together only shows how gifted a writer he really is.
Harlan Coben for me is the master of mystery/thrillers, simply an amazing storyteller , great characters, great stories, thrilling from start to finish - it has to be 5 stars for this thrilling novel. Keep them coming Harlan, can't wait to read the next one!
I would like to thank the publisher for sending this in exchange for an honest review.
